A woman was burned to death in a car crash after colliding with a truck at the 50/50 crossing south of Kriel in Mpumalanga on Friday night.
The incident happened on Saturday night, Ross Campbell, ER24 spokesperson said. “The light motor vehicle the woman was driving collided with a truck and then caught fire.”
“ER24 paramedics attended the scene with the secunda fire department. The light motor vehicle was found ablaze in the road. The blaze was extinguished by the fire department but, unfortunately, the woman was trapped in the burning car and had already succumbed to her injuries. She was declared dead on arrival by ER24. The truck driver was uninjured,” said Campbell.
“The traffic department, as well as the South African Police Services, were on the scene for further investigations,” Campbell added.
In a separate incident, a woman was killed, and five others injured when a bakkie they were travelling in overturned. This happened in Osindisweni, KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday morning, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said.
Rusa members arrived at the scene at around 03:58. On arrival they located a severely damaged white Nissan Hardbody bakkie several metres down a steep embankment, RUSA said.
“According to onlookers, four occupants of the vehicle were transported to hospital while one female was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.”
A woman who was on her way for prayer in the bakkie, said she witnessed as the driver lost control. “Passengers seated in the rear were ejected as the bakkie overturned while travelling down a steep embankment. One of the injured was an 11-year-old girl,” said Rusa.
The 24-year-old woman suffered minor injuries and was transported to hospital by ambulance.
