Defence lawyer, advocate Malesela Teffo, has told the court that an eyewitness will testify that former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Robert Meyiwa was shot dead by mistake by his girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo.
Counsel for four of the five men arrested for the murder of the footballer, advocate Malesela Teffo, submitted to the court that an unidentified witness would testify that Khumalo shot Meyiwa, who was visiting her at the time.
Teffo was cross examining veteran police forensic expert Sergeant Thabo Mosia, who was the first crime scene expert to arrive at Khumalo’s house after the murder of Meyiwa.
“I put it to you Mr Mosia that a witness, not just a witness, an eyewitness will testify that Senzo Robert Meyiwa was allegedly shot by Nonhlanhla Kelly Khumalo by mistake, as it’s alleged,” Teffo said.
Mosia said he had no response to the allegation that girlfriend Kelly Khumalo is the actual shooter who killed Senzo Meyiwa by mistake. Despite this, Teffo stuck to his claims against the singer, telling the court that the murder weapon was brought into the house by Longwe Twala- the son of music icon Chicco Twala.
“The same eyewitness will further testify that the firearm used to shoot Senzo Robert Meyiwa by Kelly Khumalo came with Longwe Twala and the firearm is a revolver,” Teffo said.
At the time of the murder Twala was dating Khumalo’s sister Zandi. They were among the seven people who were inside the Vosloorus home when Meyiwa was shot dead in an alleged botched robbery.
