We all know that we are supposed to floss every day – that’s all we hear when we go to the dentist. But how many of us are actually doing it on a daily basis?
No more excuses, because National Flossing Day is here to remind you of your oral health and why flossing, in particular, is so important.
How did National Flossing Day begin?
National Flossing Day has been around since the year 2000 and its aim is to remind people of how important it is to look after your teeth. And of course, flossing plays an extremely important role in this.
Floss has been available since the late 1890s, and it was actually Johnson and Johnson who developed the first patented dental floss in 1898. And in this time, toothbrushes were considered expensive.
Floss was originally made from silk threads, however, by the end of WWII, nylon had become more common and was used for floss further on.
How to participate
I’m sure you have figured out by now how to celebrate Flossing day – by flossing!
This day is meant to raise awareness about oral health, so if you haven’t been in a while, not might be the best time to schedule a dentist appointment.
And even though it took 102 years for National Flossing Day to come into play, we definitely shouldn’t wait that long before taking care of your teeth!
