The warning expressed that “showers and thunderstorms are expected over most parts of the Western Cape”. Over the next few days, Durban and Johannesburg will face more thunderstorms. Amid their recent struggles with flash flooding earlier this month.
To further express the dangers, the South African Weather Service relayed the effects of the upcoming thunderstorms in the Western Cape.
The weather forecast for the Western Cape
Some of the effects include flash flooding, the disruption of essential services, difficulty driving, and damage to informal settlements. The loss of livestock and agricultural production is also at risk.
To avoid these dangers, it is essential to keep off the roads during these heavy rains. While heavy rain is the main source of caution, strong winds will also contribute to uncomfortable weather conditions.
For the month of December, the weather forecast consists of plenty of wet days. While it may be humid during the time it rains, thunderstorms will persist as though it is the winter season.
Over the next few days, Durban will experience thunderstorms and strong wins with a humidity of up to 87 percent. While Johannesburg will face a chance of rain up to 77 percent. This may not be the festive season South Africans had hoped for. However, there may a few sunny days on the horizon as well.
