An unidentified man was the target of a mob attack that took place outside the ever-buzzing Parklane Spar, on Monday.
What happened outside Parklane Spar?
Passers-by captured the gruesome encounter a man had with shoppers and security officials outside the shopping complex situated in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
While details around the incident are still murky, it’s believed the unidentified man, labelled a suspect by reputable microbloggers, was caught as he tried to escape from a crime scene.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly attempted to commit robbery inside the grocery store. While it’s unclear what exactly transpired, it’s believed the man took out a knife and forced a Spar cashier to withdraw money from the cash register.
This brazen attempt failed, however, and in the midst of his escape, the man was allegedly approached by the store’s security guards who, during a tussle with the knife-wielding robber, were stabbed.
Reports alleged that the unidentified man was captured as he was fleeing from the scene by angry eyewitnesses who caught the mob confrontation on camera.
The video footage that has since gone viral on social media, shows the man being stomped and beaten to a pulp in the back of a bakkie by a mob of angry shoppers and security guards.

The condition of the suspect remains unknown at this stage. It remains unclear if he has since been arrested and charged with his alleged crimes.
