Firefighters from Cape Town have taken it upon themselves to share some pointers on how we can have a safe festive season this year.
How to keep safe from fire
In their plea for vigilance, the Firefighters noted the many tragic blaze incidents that have taken place in the past year and even in the years before. This time around, they’re urging Capetonians to be aware of the ways they can avoid being in a crisis situation.
The first and most important part is never to leave children unattended in a home. For obvious reasons, children tend to be curious about how different things work so it is always advisable to have a responsible adult look after children. A fire can easily break out with children that are unattended.
As load-shedding remains to be a prevalent part of our lives, it is essential to take into consideration that this will be our reality in the foreseeable future. That means, we need to take the necessary precautions before power cuts.

This includes switching off all appliances such as stoves to prevent them from going up in flames when the electricity goes back on again. That is, if you’ve gone to bed during load-shedding and didn’t check that your appliances are still on.
Essentially, sometimes fire outbreaks can become uncontrollable and some of them occur while you have done everything necessary to keep safe from it. At a stage like this, it is useful to know where your nearest fire station is.
To get in contact with your nearest fire station, you have to make sure you have the correct details so that they may get to you in time and as soon as possible.
The festive season is one of the busiest times of the year and to spare the difficult experiences for the firefighters, it is essential to heed the safety warning or tips shared above. While saving people is part of the job description, there are avoidable predicaments that can spare families and firefighters alike. So, whatever you do try and have the safest and of course, a fun festive season.
