North West police and the Randfontein Flying Squad arrested two suspects on Thursday for murder, kidnapping and carjacking a couple. The dead bodies of the North West couple was discovered days apart and 100 metres away from each other in Dithakong East Village this week.
The suspects, aged 25 and 26, were arrested in Randfontein and Setlopo Village, Mahikeng after reports of couple who was reported missing was found dead in a bush with their Toyota Quantum also reported stolen.
The bodies of Macdonald Stevens, 48, and Baitibadi Maduna, 42, were found in bushes in Dithakong East Village on Sunday and Tuesday, after they had been reported missing. “It was established during investigation that the girlfriend’s body was found with some body parts missing,” said Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone.
The couple was reported missing on the same day Stevens body had been discovered. They were last seen alive at his home in Mapetla section, Setlopo Village in Mahikeng on Thursday, June 16. “In addition, the boyfriend’s stolen Toyota Quantum minibus was found with parts stripped off in Lenasia, Gauteng Province,” said Mokgwabone.
The suspects are expected to appear in Molopo Magistrate’s Court, Mmabatho on Monday, 27 June, on two charges of murder, kidnapping and one charge of carjacking.
Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, the provincial police commissioner, commended the team for working tirelessly and ensuring that the two suspects allegedly involved in the murder of the North West couple are arrested.
“I applaud the team for their dedication and indicated that no stone will be left unturned to get to the bottom of this incident and alleged perpetrators face the full might of the law,” said Kwena.
