SA’s latest challenge: jet fuel shortages
South Africa’s largest airport, OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, is facing jet fuel shortages due to “logistical issues” caused by recent flooding.
The South African Petroleum Industry Association (SAPIA) confirmed that fuel stocks are “low but not critical”.
“[T]he movement of jet fuel is currently challenging due to the impact of the recent floods in KwaZulu–Natal. Rail deliveries have been paused as a result of extensive damage to railway lines. This is posing a risk to the supply of product to O.R Tambo International Airport in the coming days.”
News24 has reported that as a means to solve this issue, airports around the country are working together with Transnet. And they have also reported that some international airlines might be arranging refuel stops at other African airports on their way to OR Tambo.
Ramaphosa vows to protect the KZN relief fund from corruption
On Tuesday 26 April, President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed a joint sitting of Parliament in order to discuss his administration’s response to the restoration of the devastated KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) after severe flooding.
And as Ramaphosa addressed the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces, he also sent a “stern” warning that the country will no longer stand for any corruption – especially during these times when others are in need of urgent relief.

It’s Freedom Day in South Africa
On 27 April, 28 years ago, South Africa held its very first post-apartheid national elections. This day marked the first time in history that anyone in the country could vote, regardless of race, bringing an end to over three hundred years of colonialism and segregation.
Since named Freedom Day and celebrated every year on 27 April, it gives us as South Africans an opportunity to renew our loyalty to our country and pledge to fight for its future.
