“War on Leaks” a total failure
Thanks to an internal audit by the Department of Water and Sanitation, it has been revealed that the “War on Leaks” project across South Africa has been a total fail. And despite R3 billion spent on the project, it did not address or reduce water losses in the country.
The project was put forth by former president Jacob Zuma. And from the 15 000 unemployed youth that was meant to be working on the project, only 852 people completed the training.
Originally, the project was meant to curb the almost R7 billion in losses from water leaks nationwide.
Abandoned Covid-19 hospitals
R1.24 billion of Covid-19 funds have been spent by the Gauteng government to construct four new “field intensive care” hospitals. And of these hospitals, two remain unopen and the others are only partially in use as they wait to be repurposed.
The buildings were controversially commissioned in March 2020 with the idea to provide extra bed capacity during the first wave of the pandemic. And according to the Daily Maverick, many senior health and infrastructure officials have been suspended due to the ongoing probe by the Special Investigating Unit.

SAAT was doing heavy maintenance, while Lufthansa Technik provided engineering services and day-to-day aircraft checks. But on Monday Comair announced that it had shifted maintenance of its aircraft away from LTMI.
