E-hailing strike continues for day two
Drivers from various e-hailing services such as Uber and Bolt will continue their three-day strike today. They will be marching to the offices of the Gauteng Transport MEC in Johannesburg on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the drivers handed their memorandum of demands to officials at the Trade and Industry Department and the Union Buildings. The drivers have further called on President Ramaphosa to sign the National Land Transport Act Amendment Bill into law, thus regulating e-hailing services.

Zikalala further called for the ANC to debate whether a parliamentary democracy will be a better option for the country. He argues that the South African courts are “anti-transformation” and that the legislature should be the final decider when it comes to policies and legislation.
And commenting on the premier’s points, the chief executive officer of Freedom Under Law said that it was “enormously concerning”.

In President Cyril Ramaphosa’s latest letter to the public, he reflected on the government’s recent conclusion of how important mobile telecommunications is for the country.
“The spectrum release is expected to reduce the cost of mobile data, expand network reach to rural and outlying areas, and improve network quality.
“Every South African who uses a mobile device will feel the benefits of this reform, especially the poor and those who currently don’t access the internet due to high costs or a lack of coverage.”
