ANC candidates battle it out for mayoral positions in metros
Even though the ANC is not yet certain where it will retain some metros as they still need coalition partners to gain some power, the fight for mayoral positions in metros has begun.
For most metros, it is clear who is up against who. However, the spokesperson of the Gauteng ANC said that they “cannot give out an official list as they only have nominees from regions and some of the nominees may fall away if they fail the vetting and qualifications verification process.”
It was also not clear if an attempt will be made from the ANC to field a candidate in the Cape Town metro.

Office of the Public Protector needs a further R76 million
According to Public Protector Busisiwe Mkwhebane, the Office has been underfunded and had to endure budget cuts. And if the Office of the Public Protector does not receive an additional R76 million in budget allocations, it won’t be able to execute its mandate.
“Some operational matters will suffocate because we are underfunded,” Public Protector Chief Financial Officer Yalekile Lusibane said.
City Power blames Eskom for extended outages
City Power distributes electricity to the greater Johannesburg region and has been getting complaints of households sitting without electricity for up to 5 hours on end.
And since this falls underneath Eskom’s many problems, City Power has appealed to their customers to “bear” with them as they try and resolve the issue with Eskom.
