Another member of the Democratic Alliance (DA) has handed in their resignation and are ready to move on to the next challenge in life. Mbali Ntuli announced on Thursday morning that she will be stepping down from her position as KwaZulu-Natal’s MPL.
Mbali Ntuli left the DA for her “own growth”
Ntuli took to Twitter and shared her resignation letter publically. Here she explains that even though she did not come to the decision lightly, it was necessary for her own growth.
“I joined the DA when I was 19 and was organising on campus. From being an early young leader, to starting the Rhodes University chapter, building and leading the DA Youth and growing the party’s presence across tertiary institutions and youth structures, I was able to interact with many young people of different backgrounds with the same dream for South Africa,” she said.

Taking a break from formal politics
In the statement, Ntuli also said she is taking a break from “formal politics” and wants to get back on the ground and help “real change-makers make our country better”.
“I am excited about going onto the ground to work with communities as they uplift themselves in keeping with the South African spirit.
“I am not lost to politics. I will be back, but it is important for me to utilise my energy, passion and plethora of ideas to uplift communities I currently cannot reach in my current role,” she said.
Furthermore, Ntuli added that she still believes that the current political system and parties were not focused on making the country the “equitable, just country” it can be.
“They are simply not able to foster collaboration, innovation and organise to make a difference,” she said.
Ntuli also spoke directly to the public, thanking them for years of support. She added that she hopes her resignation is not seen as a “betrayal of their votes and confidence”.
Instead, she hopes that the public understands that she needs this time to “renew her energies” and find alternative ways to give back to communities.
