A 64-year-old man is hospital under police guard, after he allegedly stabbed his wife and two daughters to death in Diepkloof, Soweto, on Thursday evening, 12 May 2022. The suspect stabbed his third child aged four, but she survived. Unfortunately, her 29-year-old mother and her two sisters were declared dead after the brutal stabbing.
According to Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo, the Gauteng police spokesperson, police were called in to attend to a domestic violence complaint in Diepkloof, Soweto on Thursday evening. “On arrival, police found a woman and three girls with stab wounds on the upper body. The woman aged 29 and two girls, aged one year and six years, were certified dead at the scene while the third girl, aged four years was taken to hospital for medical treatment,” said Masondo.
The suspect, who was the husband and father of the four victims, was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment after he allegedly tried to commit suicide after he brutally stabbed his family, said Masondo.
Police said the suspect will be taken to court to face charges of murder and attempted murder “as soon as he is discharged from hospital”.
In a separate incident last month, police officers were pelted with stones by angry community members in Limpopo who wanted to attack a man who allegedly stabbed his 32-year-old ex-girlfriend and later tried to commit suicide by consuming poison.
The 35-year-old suspect was arrested, and a murder case was open following an intensive search operation.
