A special Cabinet meeting held today, 31 January 2022, has approved changes to the Adjusted Alert Level 1 COVID-19 regulations.
South Africa’s new Level 1 Covid-19 regulations
Based on the current state of the pandemic in the county and the levels of vaccination, Cabinet decided to implement the following changes to Adjusted Alert Level 1.
Testing Positive
- If a person tests positive but shows no symptoms, isolation is not required
- If a person tests positive with symptoms, isolation is reduced to 7 days
- People who came into contact with a positive case only have to isolate if they develop symptoms
“The rationale for these amendments is informed by the proportion of people with immunity to Covid-19 which has risen substantially, exceeding 60-80% in several serosurveys,” the presidency said.
Changes in schools
- Primary, secondary and sepcial schools will return to daily attendance
- Learners no longer need to keep a social distance of 1 metre
All new regulations are implemented with immediate effect.
