A terrifying moment was captured on video of yet another baby being snatched from her mother’s trolley inside a shopping store.
In the footage, a woman who appears to be in her fifties appears to be trolling calmly down the aisle in the freezer section of a Cash & Carry store in Port Elizabeth, pretending as if she was shopping.
The baby can be seen seated in the trolley as the wearing a green and yellow tracksuit and a blue beanie gets closer. While the parents of the toddler are busy choosing what they wanted to have for dinner, the woman in a tracksuit snatched the child and quickly walked away.
Colonel Priscila Naidu, the police spokesperson said when the father tuned around and noticed the baby was gone, he quickly ran to the security at the door.
“As the security guard was about to close the doors, the first woman pointed out to the father that the child was with the second suspect. The woman indicated that they were just joking with the parents. The two women and the complainant do not know each other,” said Naidu.
Naidu said the security guard informed the police that the complainant and the two suspects were at their offices.
“Police attended, and both suspects and complainants were brought to the police station, and a case of kidnapping was opened”.
She said the two women aged 51 and 56, are still in custody and the investigation continues.
It comes after a woman took to social media two weeks ago to share a CCTV footage of her daughter being snatched at SusperSpar in Alberton Johannesburg.
Mother of two Danielle Wolff had placed her daughter in the child seat of her shopping trolley as she selected items from the freezer. As she bent to select what she planned on buying for supper, a male shop employee calmly walked and snatched the baby from the trolley.
As he tried walking away, the woman turned and saw that her child was not in the trolley. As she shouted and turned around, she saw the man carry her baby and she went to take her back.
