After two days of trying to capture Sheba the tiger, the decision was reached to euthanize the wild animal after she posed a threat to a group on a farm.
Tiger is found and euthanized
Times Live reports that the tigress killed another animal on a farm. She also posed a threat to those on the farm. A task team had been on the lookout for the tiger since Sunday. However, they failed to capture that dangerous animal.
The teams set out bait traps in order to lure Sheba the tiger but to no avail. The SPCA relayed that darting the tigress at night was not an option.
“Sheba had moved during the night across the hills to the west side of Fruit Farms, bringing her close to livestock and residents in a more densely populated area. This was not an easy decision to make and the safety of the community of Walkers Fruit Farms was a priority,”
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the SPCA received a call that the tiger was in the Walkers Fruit Farm. This was just 2km from where she was previously reported to be seen last.
Victim opens up about the attack
At the time, Sheba had killed a domestic animal. She, therefore, posed a threat to more than one family on the plot. A spokesperson for the SPCA relayed that it was impossible to secure or capture her safely.
The tiger is reported to have been shot at 3:45 am. That is after a call for assistance at the Walkers Fruit Farm.
As a result of this predicament, the SPCA noted that wild animals should not be kept as pets. They further noted that they are against the breeding of wild animals and exotic animals as pets.
Attacked resident looking to sue
A 39-year-old man who was attacked on Sunday spoke to eNCA. He shared that he will be suing the owner of the tiger. During the time of his attack, the individual was reportedly tying his shoelace. It is at this moment the tiger attacked him.
While speaking to eNCA, the individual noted that all of his injuries were on his legs as he fought off the tiger in this way.
