Reports of mass shootings have rocked the country recently, with the latest coming from the Free State where seven bodies of farm workers were discovered at a farm in Kestell.
The shocking incident took place in the small and frigid town of Kestell, near Harrismith on Friday around 9am. The motive for the horrific shooting is unclear.
“It is alleged that on Friday, the farm owner came across lifeless bodies of farm workers inside their house on the farm,” police said in a statement.
It is alleged that among the deceased are six women. Police said the motive for the killing was unknown and the families of the deceased have yet to identify their bodies.
The authorities have called on anyone with information that could help lead to the successful arrest and conviction of the suspects to contact the police hotline 08600 1000 or to contact their nearest police station.
“The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Baile Motswenyane has ordered an urgent mobilisation of maximum resources to make sure that the perpetrators are brought to book.”
The incident follows another mass shooting which took place in Alexandra, where at least six people were shot dead on Thursday evening, including Alex FM’s music manager Joshua Mbatha also known as DJ Josh.
Those who were killed are said to have been robbed off their cellphones and their other belongings, said Gauteng police.
