It was yet another brutal day of cross examination for Sergeant Thabo Mosia by Advocate Zandile Mshololo, who represents one of the five accused in the Senzio Meyiwa trial, revealed to the court that the crime scene was tampered with before the police arrived at the scene.
Mshololo read three statements to the court on Monday where witnesses admitted to having entered Kelly Khumalo’s home before the police arrived. “Maggy Phiri started to pick up the empties from the floor. I asked her why she was tidying up before the police could arrive at the scene. Maggy responded that she does not want police to see that the people who were inside the house were drinking,” Mshololo said.
Mshololo further questioned Mosia whether the people who were inside the house when Senzo Meyiwa died were sober. She asked: “Did you take blood tests of all the people who were present when the shooting incident took place to see who had been drinking?”
Mosia responded saying that was not his duty. When asked by Mshololo if he investigated the car to see if there were any blood stains or the distance the car travelled on the night of the murder of Meyiwa, Mosia revealed that he neglected to investigate the car of the deceased, which could have been used as evidence to the crime scene given that the same car was used to transport the deceased to the hospital.
Mosia said: The car was at the scene. However, I did not inspect the car for blood stains because I did not find that to be necessary. Mosia showed images where he had found blood stains within the crime scene.
Mosia revealed that the pictures were taken on the second day of the visit at the crime scene. He said: “I took these on the second visit because during the first visit I was not instructed to do so.”
