On May 30, 2022, Riaan Swiegelaar, the co-founder of the South African Satanic Church (SASC), resigned as lead pastor of the controversial church after experiencing unconditional love. Riaan also resigned from the church council and dissolved his membership from the organisation.
The resignation comes after Christians demonstrated unconditional love for him. In a lengthy Facebook video, Riaan explained how he came to the decision of leaving the Satanic church.
“To be very honest, I initially thought I’d quietly slip out the backdoor and I didn’t think people would be so interested in why I do what I do. I was very sad and very broken, without realising it. I think a lot of people resonate with Satanism when they come from a very broken place.
“I have met thousands of Satanists over the past year and they are extremely hurt and broken- that’s the one thing we all have in common,” he said.
An emotional Riaan said: “To this day, there have only been four Christians in my entire life who have shown me what unconditional love is.”
He said Adele Frey, one of the people who showed him unconditional love, messaged him, saying she just did a simple thing by showing him love. “People, showing love for others is everything. It is not a simple thing. You showed me the love of Christ; I’ve seen it in you.”
Riaad said Frey demonstrated what unconditional love really is and this has made him join the church of Christ.
