Earlier in the week, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) announced that from April onwards, social grants will be paid from the second day of the month. However, the new dates will not apply to the R350 SRD grant.
Usually, social grants are paid during the first week of the month. Grants for elderly people get paid first, then the disability grants the next day and then the child grants.
However, with the new method, in the case that the second day of the month falls on a weekend or public holiday, the payment will be made on the next working day.
Confusion over R350 SRD grants
After the initial announcement, the agency received tons of questions regarding what this meant for R350 grant payments.
This made SASSA confirm: “These changes are for the normal social grants, not the special Covid-19 SRD grant”.
This means that the same ID number system will still be applicable for those receiving the R350 SRD grant. And beneficiaries will have to receive a confirmation SMS on when to collect the grant at the post office.

The agency has furthermore released an updated grants calendar for the remainder of 2022 and the beginning of 2023:
