The year 2022 marks Queen Elizabeth’s 70th year on the throne – her Platinum Jubilee. However, this also means that the Queen is getting closer to celebrating her 96th birthday. So of course it is natural for Her Majesty to be experiencing some health issues. However, according to some royal experts, she is trying to not show “weakness” in public.
Queen Elizabeth’s health scares
Queen Elizabeth’s health started being a topic of concern in October 2021 when she had to spend some time in hospital. And although Buckingham Palace did not release any details surrounding her health condition then, she did end up cancelling a trip to Northern Ireland.
Since then, the doctor advised her to rest more and start taking on fewer public duties. And in February 2022, the Queen tested positive for Covid-19. But luckily she only experienced “mild, cold-like symptoms”.
And even though the Queen has recovered from Covid, many are still concerned for her health and have even commented on her looking frail the last few months.
Her Majesty wants to be remembered as a strong leader
During a recent discussion, a panel of royal experts discussed Queen Elizabeth’s health conditions.
They immediately commented on the fact that Her Majesty is now using a walking stick but clearly still does not want to show any “weakness” to the public.
“I have to say, personally, I think it’s incredibly unlikely we will ever see her in some kind of a wheelchair,” journalist Rebecca English said.
“Not that there’s anything wrong with it, but the queen is a woman of her generation. She’s very proud. She’s never really liked to make concessions to her age, although she is doing that now, reluctantly, by using a walking stick.”
Tessa Dunlop, who is an author and historian, also noted that many people of the Queen’s generation are more used to the “stiff upper lip” policy and will never “own or flaunt your weaknesses”.
And of course, the “role in the monarchy is to be the most steadfast pillar”. Thus, it makes complete sense that she would want to remain as this image for as long as possible so that people remember her like that.
