MEC Madoda Sambatha Gives Congratulations
The North West Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha, has praised both the staff of Joe Morolong Memorial Hospital as well as the new mother, Lettie Sewedi, for their successful delivery.
He said “Well done to our doctors and nurses for a successful operation that delivered the babies. More importantly congratulations to the mother who gave birth to these quadruplets. We know that Ms Lettie Sewedi had been booked to attend the Antenatal care at Coleridge clinic and was later referred to JMM Hospital where a successful operation was undertaken by our well experienced medical team”
What are Quadruplets?
Quadruplets are a set of four offspring born at one birth. With one of the individuals from the set of four being a quadruplet or a quad.
Experts say that quadruplets form when a single fertilized egg splits into four different embryos. These embryos are known as monozygotic quadruplets and are genetically identical. From here the four eggs are then released. Following which a different individual sperm can fertilize each one.
Status of the Babies
Delivery of the quadruplets was very successful and, as suspected by the Vryburg hospital team, all four babies were born with reasonable weights. Three of the four newborns are boys. Specifically, quads one, two and four. And quad three is a girl.
Currently, all three boys are being fed. However, the little girl is on ventilation in the Intensive care unit. Doctors have been closely monitoring her since she received a blood transfusion, following the discovery of her proneness to Apneic attacks.
Conclusion
39-year-old Lettie Sewedi is now the mother of nine children. And was very happy and grateful for the professional service received by the Vryburg hospital employees that aided in the delivery of her quadruplets. In response, the Chief Executive Officer of Joe Morolong Memorial Hospital, Ms Portia Tlou, applauded the delivery team. Adding that “Ours is only to serve our patients with distinctive love”.
