Primary school pupils from M.C. Weiler in Alexandra made a gruesome discovery of what looked like a human body underneath a mobile classroom on the school premises. Parents of the learners expressed shock following the discovery of the dread body under a mobile container classroom on Thursday.
According to the Gauteng education department, learners were playing soccer outside the school premises during lunch break when their ball went under a classroom used to teach grade five leaners. Steve Mabona, the provincial education spokesperson said that was when the leaners made the gruesome discovery and immediately informed their teachers.
He said: “One of the pupils had to fetch the soccer ball under the mobile classroom and he saw a dead body covered with a blanket. He alerted other pupils, who informed their teachers. The school management contacted the police and pupils were dismissed to allow police officials to conduct necessary investigations.”
A 43-year-old mother of a grade 5 pupil at the school expressed complete shock that there was a dead body under the classroom.
“One wonders now how our kids are safe when people are able to dispose of a body at the school. Also, how long has the body been there for? How can someone be so cruel to dump a bead body at a school? What if it is one of the kids who is thrown under the mobile classroom next time? If the school had proper classes, this would not have happened,” she said.
Mabona said learning and teaching was halted on Thursday, but classes resumed on Friday.
