It is understood that Princess Charlene of Monaco celebrated her 44th birthday alone while she continues to be treated for “emotional and physical exhaustion”.
The Princess Charlene Foundation shares sweet tribute
Celebrating via social media, the Princess Charlene Foundation South Africa took to their Instagram and shared a tribute video, wishing the princess a happy birthday.
The foundation voiced how much “loved and appreciated” the princess is and calls her an “inspiration”.
“Happy birthday, Princess Charlene! We honour you for how much you always give of yourself to change people’s lives around the world, your passion and dedication to saving and changing lives is truly an inspiration.
“We trust this video of your journey thus far reminds you just how loved and appreciated you are,” the caption reads.
Princess Charlene also shared the video on her own private account, captioning it with a red heart.
The video showcases the princess’ life – from her childhood with her siblings and parents in South Africa, her accomplishments as an Olympic swimmer, and finally to her stunning life as Princess of Monaco.
Charlene married Prince Albert, Prince of Monaco in 2011 and the royal couple has since welcomed their twins, Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques (6).
Trapped in SA for months
Earlier in January, the Palace released a statement regarding the princess’ wellbeing. Charlene was reportedly “months away from full recovery” after she was booked into a wellness facility shortly after her return to Monaco.
Due to the pandemic, she was unable to leave South Africa for six months.
“The princess is recuperating in a satisfactory and reassuring manner, although it may take a few more months before her health has reached a full recovery,” said the statement.
