Free State police are investigating a case of assault after a group of white men allegedly attacked two black teens at the Maselspoort Resort outside Bloemfontein on Christmas Day.
A video clip, shared on social media, captured part of the incident at Maselspoort Resort and Conference Centre, on the banks of the Modder River about 23k outside Bloemfontein.
The footage depicted white males ordering a teenager out of the water, then hitting and shoving him back in. In the footage the two back teens try to defend themselves but are seen overpowered.
One of the black teenagers can be heard telling people to call the police as the fight broke out. The teen is seen grabbed by the throat and hair before he is shoved into the swimming pool.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), on 25 December 2022 at about 15:03, Glen police were called to a fighting incident at a holiday resort in Bloemfontein.
On arrival the officers found that the groups had already dispersed. They were then approached by a parent of one of the victims who alleged that his two teen boys aged 18 and 13 were assaulted by a group of white males over the usage of the swimming pool.
Spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said Glen police are investigating a case of common assault, and they will take the docket to court for a decision.
Makhele said the suspects, all white males who were captured in the video making circulation on social media, were warned to appear in court on a date to be set by the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court.
Lieutenant-General Baile Motswenyane said the incident would receive the necessary attention it deserves from the investigating team assigned.
“We further condemn the behaviour as reflected in the video,” she said.
