Three people were killed, and 12 others wounded on Saturday after multiple shooters opened fire into a crowd in the US city of Philadelphia, according to police.
A brawl between two men turned a packed street in Philadelphia into a scene of terror after they pulled out guns and began firing at each other. By the time the shooting had ended, three people were declared dead and 12 people were injured.
The shooting happened on South Street in Philadelphia, a popular area for tourism and nightlife. Police said they had beefed up security in the area prior to the shooting but noted that the area was too large for officers to completely cover.
Police Inspector D.F. Pace told reporters that two men and one woman were killed in the deadly shooting, adding that officers who responded to the incident “observed several active shooters shooting into the crowd.”
“You can image there were of individuals enjoying South Street, as they do every single weekend, when this shooting broke out,” Pace said.
“At this time, we believe one of the three deceased was a male involved in a physical altercation with another male that was potentially the genesis of the shooting,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said at a news conference on Sunday.
No arrests were made, and the police are searching for the suspect who may have been wounded by a responding officer.
