Paarl experienced the worst of the heavy rainfall this past Monday. More rainfall is expected this Tuesday.
Paarl floods lead to business closures
In the midst of the flash flooding and extreme thunderstorms, the municipality has embarked on providing temporary accommodation to those affected by the floods. Disaster relief funds will also be made available during this time.
Over the past year, Paarl has experienced countless flash flooding incidents. Back in June, a bus carrying 50 pupils was tipped over as a result of the flooding and poor road conditions. Luckily, all the learners were accounted for while four learners had minor injuries.
However, no injuries were reported in the flash flooding which took place on Monday. Residents of Paarl were urged to be vigilant as heavy rainfall is expected to take place again today.
In a video shared by The Village Guy, a Paarl news outlet, countless roads were shown to be flooded with water. One resident captured footage of a large building filling up with water as it rained before the ceiling eventually collapses. No one was harmed during this incident.

The flash flooding in Paarl has also caused a large number of power outages. Many homes have also been inundated with water as the rainfall has reached as high as 70 – 80mm.
Residents and businesses are now working on cleaning up what they can in the meantime. Furniture stores, cafes, gyms, and homes are among the buildings that are now affected by the flash flooding in Paarl this week. Cars are also unable to move as a result of the height of the water in the respective areas in Paarl.
Some businesses were also shut down as a precaution to the floods taking place this week. More updates will follow suit.
