A police officer out on bail on charges of rape, attempted murder and kidnapping has been arrested again, this time for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.
The officer stationed at stationed at Mogwase police station in the North West, was arrested on Thursday and will appear in the Mogwase Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
With this being women’s month, North West Police Commissioner, Sello Kwena condemned the act of violence by the police officer and assured the community at Welgeval Village that acts of abuse by members of the public or the police will not go unpunished.
Kwena expressed his disapproval of the officer’s conduct, which he said was unethical and unacceptable, adding that the officer will not be given any special treatment.
“The assurance comes after Constable Clayson Modupe, aged 36 and working at Mogwase Police Station was arrested on Thursday 4 August 2022, at his residential place for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend,” said Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, the provincial police spokesperson.
The constable was previously arrested after he allegedly knocked down a woman with a car, then kidnapped and allegedly raped her at Welgevaal village, near Mogwase. He was released on bail.
“The member is expected to appear in the Mogwase Magistrate’s Court on Monday 8 August 2022. Moreover, the departmental hearing against the member is ongoing,” he added.
The policeman was arrested then released in January by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
