“The Northern Cape Provincial SAPS Management welcomed a jail term handed down to a 17-year-old boy on three counts: robbery aggravating, murder, and rape. The accused was found guilty and sentenced by the Northern Cape High Court on Saturday, 11 June 2022,” said SAPS spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana.
Tawana said the court declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm and ordered that his name be added to the national sex offender’s register. The teenager is said to have attacked the elderly woman in her home in July last year, raping, killing and stealing her possessions before fleeing the scene.
“In July 2021 the accused accosted an 81-year-old woman, at her home in Cassel village where he raped, murdered and robbed her of her belongings. The accused was arrested and the investigating officer Lieutenant Colonel Doggy Magugu successfully opposed bail, and was kept in police custody until the finalisation of the trial,” Tawana said.
