Mmusi Maimane is currently trending in South Africa for allegedly giving up his position as the leader OneSA Movement to join the ANC. But soon after his “announcement” made headlines, he set the record straight.
Very convincing April Fools’ Day joke
The former DA leader took to Facebook and released a whole statement explaining that after a “substantial time of reflections and introspection”, he came to the decision to join the ANC.
And not only will he be “joining” but he will also be running for the position of deputy president at the party’s upcoming conference in December 2022.
“I have some important news to share!
“Mmusi Maimane enters the race for ANC Deputy President. After a substantial time of reflection and introspection, Mmusi Maimane wishes to today announce that he is returning home to the ANC, and will be running for the position of deputy president at the party’s upcoming conference in December 2022
“Maimane has returned to his African nationalism roots and wants to now mount a serious challenge for the role in the coming months. Asked about running as Cyril Ramaphosa’s deputy, Maimane said Ramaphosa is the best hope South Africa has, and he will rally all his political will and resources behind ensuring the sitting president gets a second term,” Mmusi wrote.

Mmusi Maimane sets the record straight
It wasn’t long till Maimane once again took to his social media. This time, however, it was to explain that the “ANC rumour” was all just an April Fools‘ joke.
In his explanation, he states that it was “all in good fun” but he won’t be leaving his position at One SA any time soon. He then proceeded to explain the big picture of One SA’s campaign – finding solutions for education, employment and the restoration of the rule of law.
