Limpopo police are on the hunt for suspects who burned an FET college teacher alive for allegedly stealing goats. The incident reportedly happened on Saturday, 2 July 2022 in Lebowakhomo, Limpopo.
According to the police 43-year-old Siphiwe Zondo was transporting an unknown number of goats he had brought in Mamaolo, Ga-Mphahlele village.
Lieutenant-Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi said Zondo’s vehicle was stopped by a mob who pulled him outside of his vehicle. “Afterwards, the angry mob assaulted him and burned him to death along with his motor vehicle after he was accused of stock theft.”
He said when the police arrived at the scene, the found the burned bakkie and Zondo’s body burned beyond recognition just few metres away. The police did not find any of the suspected stolen goats at the scene.
“The deceased is originally from KwaZulu-Natal province and was a resident in Lebowakgomo Zone A. Members of the community are cautioned not to take the law into their own hands but rather handover the suspects to the police for further investigation and prosecution,” said Seabi.
A manhunt has been launched for the suspects and the police have called on anyone with information that can help lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the investigating officer, Sergeant Makadani on 072 029 7499 or call the crime stop number 08600 10111 or call the nearest police station.
