On Tuesday, four inmates managed to escape from the Rooigrond Correctional Facility in Mahikeng, North West. Since then, a manhunt has been launched by South African Police Services (SAPS) and the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) to catch the inmates as soon as possible.
SAPS spokesperson Brigadier SB Mokgwabone said: “Investigations will be instituted and the circumstances relating to the escape will be revealed once investigations have been concluded”.
Dangerous inmates are on the run
All four inmates are convicted for horrible crimes and are serving years’ sentences.
Their names and crimes are as follow:
Zacharia Fransisco Nyalimate (Mozambican) – Serving 27 years
- Convicted for house breaking and murder
- Murder
Alfred Gwambe (Mozambican) – Serving 65 years
- Convicted for house breaking
- Theft
- Possession of stolen vehicle
Siyabonga Sithole (South African) – Serving a life sentence
- Convicted for rape
- Theft
- House breaking
Edward Madiba (South African) – Serving 15 years
- Convicted for robbery
- Possession of firearm
The Department urges members of the public to come forward if they have any information that may lead to the re-arrest of the four.
“They are considered dangerous and if spotted, information should be shared with the nearest Police Station,” Mokgwabone said.
