A man was stabbed with a knife to death by a suspect carrying a baby in the Johannesburg CBD on Wednesday. The suspect a 27-year-old foreign national was arrested by the police following the murder.
The brutal stabbing incident was captured on CCTV footage and was posted on social media by crime-fighting activist Yusuf Abramjee.
In the footage which shows that the incident happened in broad daylight, the suspect is seen carrying a baby on his right arm and holding another on his left hand. The suspect walked to the victim and released the hand of the child on the left and pulled out a knife.
The suspect stabbed the deceased with one deadly blow on the abdominal area. The suspect is seen in the footage trying to run away as the deceased fell on the floor. The police arrested the suspect on Wednesday and are now investigating the matter.
Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo, the police spokesperson said the motive for the killing is still unknown. “The motive for the killing cannot be confirmed at this stage. The suspect is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday,” he said.
Masondo said the incident took place at a store on Plein and Small Street in Johannesburg CBD at around 10:30am. He added that the suspect will be facing a charge of murder.
