A 33-year-old man handed himself over to the police in Swartkops for the alleged murder of his ex-girlfriend’s six-year-old son, in what appears to be an act of revenge.
The suspect handed himself over to the Swartkops police in the Eastern Cape, following the murder of his ex-girlfriend’s son six-year-old Thabang Klass.
According to Colonel Priscilla Naidu, the police spokesperson, the child’s body was found on Monday, July 25 on a footpath in the bushes between Mathys Grounds and Wells Estate in Swartkops.
“It is alleged that on Friday, July 22, the suspect fetched the child from his grandmother’s house in New Brighton and thereafter strangled him in the bushes between Mathys Grounds and Wells Estate in Swartkops,” Naidu said.
“The suspect was detained on a charge of murder and motive for the murder is suspected to be revenge against the ex-girlfriend,” Naidu added.
He is expected to make an appearance at the Gqberha Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
“The protection of our children is everyone’s business and responsibility, and police urge the community to report any suspected child abuse or neglect.
“Children are trusting of those whom they know, thereby making them vulnerable to child abusers and murderers. I urge communities to be the voice to the voiceless and let us stop the abuse and brutal attacks of our children,” Lieutenant-General Nomthetheleli Mene said.
