A man who fell from the sixth floor of the popular mall Menlyn Shopping Centre succumbed to his injuries on Thursday. The 31-year-old man allegedly fell inside the shopping centre and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
Colonel Dimakatso Sello, the police spokesperson said the alleged victim fell from level 6 at Menlyn shopping centre. He was declared dead at the hospital. The cause of the incident is not known at this stage, she said.
According to Kyle van Reenen, from Emer-G-Med paramedics, when they arrived at the scene just after 8am, they found the patient who was in very critical condition.
“It was established that the man, about 30 years of age, had fallen from a height of approximately three stories. He was in critical condition. Advanced Life Support intervention was needed to stabilise him before he was placed on a machine ventilator to assess him in breaking.”
The injured man was airlifted by Netcare911’s aeromedical helicopter to a specialist facility to give him the treatment and care that he required.
“The reason for the fall and the events preceding it are unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Service investigation,” Emer-G-Med said.
