The suspect allegedly stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death and hit her 14-year-old son with a hammer after he mistakenly thought they were dating in Viljoenskroon, Free State. The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday at about 03:55.
According to Captain Malebo Khosana, the Free State police spokesperson, the ex-girlfriend and her son shared a bed and that made the suspect think that they were dating. The suspect and his now murdered ex-girlfriend were in a relationship for almost four years and the relationship ended three months ago.
“It is alleged that the 30-year-old suspect went to the ex-girlfriend’s house in the early hours. Upon arrival, he stabbed her to death and hit her son with a hammer on the head. The suspect allegedly thought the son was the current boyfriend of the ex-girlfriend. The suspect fled the scene afterwards.
“Paramedics were called to the scene and declared both the 34-year-old mother and her 14-year-old son dead on the scene,” said Khosana.
The 30-year-old suspect was arrested and is expected to appear at the Viljoenskroon Magistrates Court on Wednesday to face charges of murder.
