On Monday, 28 February, Eskom released a statement on Twitter showing which areas will be experiencing load shedding from 17:00 to 22:00.
According to the power utility, “load reduction” will be implemented in order to prevent network overloading that may take place in high-density areas. And once networks are overloaded, it can lead to damage to the electricity infrastructure through explosions in overloaded transformers and mini-substations.
Load shedding will be affecting the following areas:
Gauteng’s main areas
- Carletonville
- Centurion
- Soweto
- West Rand
Free State – Lejweleputswa District:
- Phomolong
- Phomolong Township sections
North West’s main areas:

Eskom further urges all customers to switch off all their electrical appliances during load shedding. This can avoid possible damage due to power surges when electricity returns.
