After Alan Winde’s office let “it slip” that he has a meeting with President Ramaphosa today, lockdown level 1 rumours started forming.
The email was sent by one of the Western Cape Premier’s spokespersons and it made it clear that President Ramaphosa will be speaking with all provincial premiers. This forms part of his engagements with the President’s Coordinating Council (PCC).
Since the email has been sent, the secretive conference has been made public knowledge:
“Kindly note that the regular digicon time was not possible this week due to the Premier’s attendance at the parliamentary session that morning, and thereafter his attendance at the President’s Coordinating Council. We apologise for the inconvenience and we hope you can make this later time.”
Level 1 restrictions seems almost guarenteed
Whenever the PCC convenes, it usually means that lockdown changes are on the horizon. And this is the main reason why level 1 rumours started to form. The is also usually one of the last meetings held before Ramaphosa addresses the nation.
Other meetings with the National Coronavirus Command Council and Cabinet will also be taking place today.
With Covid-19 cases, hospitalisations, and deaths becoming fewer and fewer and combined with the high availability of vaccines in SA, it seems almost guaranteed that the restrictions will be moved to Level 1.
