This comes after the South African weather service issued an orange level 5 warning of possible floods in the province.
On Thursday, the Cooperative Governance Department also warned that heavy rain could hit the province from Friday evening heading into the weekend. The warning which brings fear and panic among the people of Kwa-Zulu Natal, comes just two months after the deadly floods which hit the province causing unprecedented damage to houses, businesses, and roads and infrastructure.
The floods claimed the lives of more than 400 people, with one family losing as much as ten family members, with only two members surviving because they were not at home when the incident happened. The Mdlalose family suffered a huge loss in the floods and the weather warning could only bring panic to the family members left.
The Weather Service has warned that that more heavy rain could be expected this weekend, with the possibility of more floods hitting the province and causing damage on the roads, settlements and possibly displacing more people in the affected communities.
Sihle Zikalala, the premier of KwaZulu-Natal said: “If KwaZulu-Natal receives an additional 20mm of rain, there is a potential of flooding as the ground may still be saturated following the recent heavy rains.”
