The Kia challenge has gotten increasingly popular on TikTok following a host of cars being linked to the viral trend.
Presently, a group of teens recently lost their lives in a car crash following participating in the viral Kia challenge. Insider reports that there were six teenagers in the car. Four of them suffered fatal injuries while two of the crash victims survived.
What is the Kia Challenge?
Right now, the Kia challenge is a trend on TikTok that shows young teenagers how to hot-wire Kia and Hyundai cars from a particular model. The trend currently shows how you can steal a car while simply using a USB cable.
To date, the Kia challenge resulted in a large number of cars being stolen in certain regions. Authorities in the US currently believe that the increase in the theft of these cars is due to the viral TikTok challenge.
According to the New York Post, one of the victims in the current car crash is revealed to be a young mother of one. At just 15 years old.
Thus far, one of the individuals from the car crash is believed to be a 16-year-old boy. He has since been released into the custody of the police. He has been charged with a third-degree charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle. And a fourth-degree charge of criminal possession of the stolen property.
Thieves target Hyundai and Kia vehicles
One of the ways to protect cars from being stolen, drivers are encouraged to buy themselves a steering wheel lock for their car. This will make it difficult for your car to be stolen.
Right now, the TikTok posts show viewers how to steal with a USB cable. But not how to rewire the car in order to do so. The present deaths of the group of teenagers are not the first time lives have been lost doing the challenge.
According to Insider, two teenage boys in Ohio have also lost their lives in a car crash due to the Kia Challenge recently. As of late, the TikTok post has amassed millions of views since the day of publishing.
