The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has released the social grants payment dates for October and beneficiaries can start collecting their money this week.
SASSA distributes more than 18 million permanent social support grants monthly. These SASSA grants ensure that vulnerable people can access funds.
SASSA payments are made to beneficiaries on the second day of every month, but with this month the first day of the month was on a Sunday making the grants accessible from today, the 3rd of October 2023. The grant payments may be made later if the second day of the month falls on a weekend or a public holiday.
Permanent grants distributed by SASSA include the Old Persons Grant, Disability Grant, Child Support Grant, Foster Care Grant, Grant in Aid, War Veterans Grant, and the Care Dependency Grant.
SASSA Grant Payment Dates for October
- Old Persons Grant- Tuesday, 3 October 2023
- Disability Grants- Wednesday, 4 October 2023
- All Other Grants- Thursday, 5 October 2023

Beneficiaries can receive their payments from selected supermarkets, such as Pick n Pay, Boxer, Usave merchants, Checkers and Shoprite, and obtain this through their SASSA card, CashSend, or by getting the amount directly transferred into their bank account.
Meanwhile, social grant beneficiaries have been urged to continue using their Postbank-issued gold cards and to use the multiple ways available to access their funds, including retailers and ATMs.
Beneficiaries are urged to wait for an SMS to say they can collect their R350 grant and should not head out to collect it if they haven’t received an SMS. If you don’t have any banking details, individuals can collect their grant cash from Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, Usave or Boxer stores.
