Gautrain commuters have had to find alternative means to travel on Wednesday, as problems with the train service persist.
Gautrain delays on Wednesday 10 November 2021
The Gauteng railway service confirmed in a statement that delays of at least 30 minutes were expected on both lines, on Wednesday.
“Technicians are on site working to complete the repairs,” the statement read.
At the time this article was published, Gautrain services between Park Station and Hatfield, Sandton and Rhodesfield, as well as trains to OR Tambo International Airport were affected by the delay.
Commuters are advised to use the bus service in the meantime.
Power failure was not due to loadshedding
The problems at Gautrains started on Tuesday afternoon. As reported by IOL News, a train travelling on the Eastern line was forced to a halt in the Sandton tunnel, leaving at least 47 passengers in a panic.
To mitigate the issue, Gautrain deployed busses to transport commuters to their respective transit points. While, at first, the problem was linked to loadshedding, Bombela, the technical support service that manages Gautrain’s maintenance and repairs, revealed that the cause of the delay was due to a damaged overhead power line.
“The power failure has not been caused by Eskom load shedding,” Gautrain spokesperson Kesagee Nayager stressed.
