Gauteng residents have been warned to expect cold temperatures from Thursday heading into Friday. Gauteng weather has warned of another cold front set to hit the province this coming weekend.
According to Gauteng Weather, icy conditions are expected to land on Friday. It says Johannesburg and Pretoria are more likely to experience windy conditions, with the mercury hovering between a minimum of 2 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius for Johannesburg.
Pretoria on the other hand will have slightly higher temperatures but will also experience a cold snap.
Gauteng Weather says the temperature is expected to be at a minimum of 4 and 5 degrees, reaching a high 18 degrees Celsius for both Saturday and Sunday.
Forecaster Khulufelo Mhlangu says the country will continue to experience cold conditions as it is still winter.
“We have been feeling cold temperatures over the past couple of days, but it is because August is still technically a winter month, so we are technically still in winter. Temperatures will transition slowly into warmer and hotter temperatures as we move towards the end of August, but at the moment, there will be some cold temperatures coming in every now and again.
“Late on Thursday, there is a cold front approaching the Gauteng province and it will cause cold temperatures on Friday,” says Mahlangu.
Mahlangu says Gauteng is expected to experience more rain from August to September.
“In terms of the seasonal forecast, we can expect above normal rainfall for Gauteng for the next couple of months, from August until December and it is indicating above normal rain for Gauteng and the surrounding provinces and that is simply because we are still in the lamina season.
“However, for the Western Cape and Namaque district in the Northern Cape, it seems like they are going to experience below-normal rainfall, it is going to be relatively dry for them this season.”
