A fourth suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of Hillary Gardee in April and was wanted for three other killings.
It’s understood the suspect was arrested on Thursday in the township of Kwa-Thema in Springs. Police Said the suspect was in possession of a firearm when they caught him. They’ve linked him to three other crimes in Mpumalanga.
Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela, the Mpumalanga police commissioner said the police had been looking for the suspect for some time and he was finally arrested in Gauteng on Thursday night.
According to Manamela the suspect confessed to the murder of Gardee after he was arrested.
“We were looking for this person and information went through last week after he was linked with another murder of a woman. He was arrested in Gauteng on Thursday night. We recovered a firearm that he was in possession of.
“He confessed to killing three other women including two who were killed last month, one of which was a police officer. We’re dealing with a man who is very brutal and heartless,” Manamela told Newzroom Afrika.
Gardee is the daughter of former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) secretary-general Godrich Gardee.
She went missing while shopping with her adopted three-year-old daughter. The daughter was later that day dropped off at Umnenke Street at KaMaGugu where they lived.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Thee other men-Sipho Mkhatshwa, Philemon Lukhele and Albert Gama were arrested for the murder of Gardee. Mkhatshwa was denied bail, while Lukhele and Gama are expected to apply for bail in September.
