After resigning from the DA in December and weeks of speculation, Bongani Baloyi has officially joined ActionSA.
Baloyi was part of the DA for 14 years, so it was a bit of a shock when the young leader decided to resign. He was the mayor of the Midvaal Local Municipality in Gauteng and was largely credited for being elected mayor in 2013 at the young age of 26. He managed to rank the Midvaal municipality as one of the best performing municipalities in the country.
Bongani Baloyi does not have any anger towards the DA
When Baloyi announced his departure from the DA, he said that he was leaving on “his own terms“.
And when he was introduced to ActionSA, Baloyi ensured that his joining a different political party, does not mean there is a “bitter spat” with the DA.
“My joining ActionSA is not out of anger, but actually because of hope that lies ahead of me. I believe this is a realignment of our politics. We have one enemy, and that is the African National Congress,” he said.
Baloyi added that he was proud of his work as a DA member and that he is committed to a better South Africa.
“Me joining ActionSA means I am committed to working toward a better South Africa under the ActionSA brand.”
“We have one enemy and that enemy is the African National Congress,” he said.
“Our country needs to be rescued and it’s for the capable South Africans to say we will not be despondent any longer. We are going to step up and get into the ring and fight for a South Africa that can deliver a prosperous future for all,” he said.

Baloyi is not the only former DA member who chose to make the switch to ActionSA. The party’s leader, Herman Mashaba, and John Moodey are both former DA members.
