The horrific incident happened at the Majeje village on Saturday 11 June 2022.
Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the Limpopo police spokesperson said the child was molested on Saturday last week, at the family home.
“The suspect and his wife together with their two minor children were asleep in the same room when the mother woke up around midnight, only to discover that her husband was not in bed. She shockingly realised that her husband was raping their 7-year-old daughter and immediately confronted him. The suspect retaliated by assaulting her,” Mojapelo said.
A case of rape was opened on June 16 (Youth Day) after the incident was reported to the police. Mojapelo explained that following preliminary investigations, it was revealed that the rape started in February this year but was not reported. The case was transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FSC) unit.
Shortly after the case was reported to the police, the 27-year-old man was arrested by members of the community service centre who were on patrol, Said Mojapelo.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe, the provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo lauded the police who arrested the suspect and appealed to member of the community to report such crimes.
“I applaud the members for swiftly arresting the suspect and stopping him from continuing with his evil deeds. I urge community members, especially parents to report this type of incident to the police so that our children can be protected and receive justice,” she said.
