On Tuesday afternoon, Eskom issued a statement warning members of the public that load shedding could be implemented on short notice. The reason being that five units failed during the day.
All though there is no load shedding expected, for now, Eskom is requesting that all members of the public reduce the use of electricity so that more strain isn’t placed on the power units.
According to Eskom’s spokesperson, Sikonathi Mantshantsha, load shedding would need to be implemented “at very short notice” in the case of any further loss of generation capacity.
The following happened to the various units today:
“A generating unit each at Kusile and Majuba were taken offline to repair boiler tube leaks, while a generating unit each at Kriel, Majuba and Matimba tripped, and the return to service of a generating unit each at Kendal and Tutuka were delayed.”
