Due to taxi violence in the Western Cape, a significant threat is posed to the safety of many Eskom staff members who need to travel in Eskom branded vehicles.
All Eskom services are suspended in unsafe areas
After a vehicle was set alight and another stoned, the incidents caused operations to evacuate the area on Friday. Therefore, Eskom has come to the decision to suspend all services in the affected areas until it is declared safe.
The affected areas are:
- Boystown
- Crossroads
- Luzuko
- Mandalay
- Marcus Garvey
- Philippi
Due to the unrest, this meant that a “significant delay” can be expected with regards to electricity restorations. Thus, customers can expect to experience longer than the planned duration of power cuts.
The power utility has stated that their own security services are working closely with local authorities by assessing the situation and ensuring that all staff members are safe. All work will be able to resume once the affected areas are safe to enter again.
