Eskom has announced that loadshedding will be suspended at 22:00 on Friday night, 22 April. The power utility still warns, however, that supply will still be “severely constrained”.
Nine units expected to be returned
In the statement that was released, Eskom says that, throughout the weekend, nine generation units are expected to be back online after service.
The expected generation units are:
- Two units at Arnot power station
- Two units at Duvha power station
- One unit at Hendrina power station
- Two units at Majuba power station
- Two units at Tutuka power station
According to Eskom, emergency reserves will now be able to be replenished thanks to the low weekend demand. And together with the reduced weekend demand, Eskom will be able to suspend loadshedding by tonight.
Eskom urges customers to use electricity wisely
Even though loadshedding will be suspended, the power utility still urges all consumers to be mindful when using any electricity.
And as the power system will still remain extremely constrained and volatile, emergency reserves will have to be relied on to get through next week.
Currently, there is 5 353 MW on planned maintenance. And another 14 912 MW of capacity cannot be used because of breakdowns.
