Put everything on charge – loadshedding is back sooner than later! On Monday afternoon 25 April, Eskom released a “Power Alert 1” that warned South Africans of possible power cuts. And in order to avoid this at short notice, Eskom urged all consumers to use electricity sparingly.
Eskom experiences more generation unit breakdowns
According to the power supplier’s statement, the power system is very “constrained” as there have been more generation unit breakdowns over the weekend.
There have also been more delays with returning some generation units to service – this after Eskom said that a total of nine units would be back online throughout the weekend.
The power supplier is currently working on returning three units at the following power stations:
- Matimba
- Duvha
- Arnot
And although the plan is to have the units back online before “evening peak”, Eskom warned that they would still have to rely on emergency reserves to get through the night.
Use electricity wisely
Furthermore, the power supplier urged all consumers to think twice before using electricity and to switch off all appliances that aren’t needed.
There is currently 4 533 MW on planned maintenance with 13 601 MW being unavailable due to the multiple breakdowns.
